GDANSK, Sept 11 (Askume) – Poland’s largest refining and energy company Orlen (PKN.WA) said in a press release on Wednesday that it has discovered a “large” oil field in western Poland.
The field was discovered next to the existing Rzecznik field in the Lubuski region, which contains 100,000 tonnes of oil. It is estimated that the whole complex now contains 500,000 tonnes of oil.
Once the reserves are developed, the site will produce 16,500 tons of oil per year. Tests conducted at the site have shown the potential for the discovery of additional oil reserves, Oren said in a news release.
“The Rzeczyce field is one of Poland’s largest oil discoveries in more than a decade,” Orlen CEO Irenaeus Fafara said in a statement.
Most of Oren’s oil production comes from oil reserves in western Poland. Last year, the group produced about 824,000 tonnes of oil, condensate and LNG.
