September 11 – Garrett Mitchell homered and the Milwaukee bullpen provided 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief as the Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 3–2 on Tuesday night to even the three-game series.
The Brewers (83-61) moved one step closer to the NFC Central title, while the Giants (71-74) remained eight games out of the NFC’s final wild-card spot with 17 games remaining.
In the first game of a six-game trip, with the Brewers leading only 2–1 in the sixth inning, Mitchell hit his first pitch of the season, a fifth home run off reliever Tristan Baker.
Mike Yastrzemski hit his 14th homer in the bottom of the inning to give the Giants a 3–2 lead.
Brewers starter Aaron Civale (6-8) retired Heliot Ramos with a fly ball before handing the ball to the Milwaukee bullpen, where he allowed two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.
DL Hall kept the one-run lead until the seventh inning. Trevor Megill went 1-2-3 in the eighth before Devin Williams completed his first 10 saves by getting Tyler Fitzgerald with two outs in the ninth.
Milwaukee took the lead in the first inning and never relinquished it.
Jackson Chourio’s leadoff double gave the Brewers two runs in the first. William Contreras and Willy Adames singled to score Giants starter Landon Ropp (0-1).
The Giants responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-out RBI single from Matt Chapman.
Rupp pitched the first five innings for San Francisco and limited the Brewers to two runs and five hits. He struck out three and walked without reaching base.
Contreras had three singles and Adams had two singles for the Brewers, who took two of three from the Giants in Milwaukee last month.
The Brewers defeated the home team 9–4.
