September 12 – Gerard Encarnacion, Mike Yastrzemski and Matt Chapman each drove in 17 runs on four hits Wednesday, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 13–2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Blake Snell overcame a poor start to pitch five strong innings and the Giants (72-74) evened the three-game series with a one-run victory.
Shortly after Snell went 1-2-3 in the first inning, the Giants gave up two runs on the right-hander’s second pitch to Brewers starter Colin Rea and Tyler Fitzgerald.
Encanian extended the lead to four runs with a two-out homer, his fourth of the season.
San Francisco started the second inning with a bang, scoring four more runs. Patrick Bailey hit another double to even the score. Fitzgerald hit his second double in two innings and drove in a run, and Yastrzemski made the game 8–0 with a three-run homer.
Rhea (12-5) stayed in the game and gave up a two-run home run to Chapman in the fourth inning, his 24th. Milwaukee’s most successful pitcher left the game after completing one inning, having allowed 10 runs on 11 hits, allowed one base and struck out one.
Snell (3-3) was strong in his game, giving up a third run on back-to-back doubles by Blake Perkins and William Contreras. The left-hander was taken out after one inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 5, limiting the Brewers to four hits. He had eight strikeouts and two walks.
Austin Warren and Sean Hazel combined to give up two hits in four innings to give the Giants their third win in four games.
The Brewers (83-62) surpassed Warren on Andrew Monasterio’s RBI single in the seventh inning.
Fitzgerald had three hits and three runs scored for the Giants, his first double-digit game against the Colorado Rockies on July 26. Bailey also had three hits.
Yastrzemski was on four wheels and Encarnacion was on three wheels. Both got two hits each, as did Lamont Wade Jr.
Wade drove in two runs and Marco Luciano drove in two runs after entering the game as a pinch hitter. Both had RBI doubles, and the Giants completed the scoring on Milwaukee first baseman Jake Bowles’ single in the ninth inning.
It was the Brewers’ fifth loss in their last seven games, cutting their lead in the National League Central Division to 8 1/2 games after the Chicago Cubs lost to the Dodgers 10-8 in Los Angeles.
