Sept 12 (Askume) – A hearing into 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules by Manchester City will begin on Monday, ESPN reports.
City were referred to an independent commission in February 2023 over alleged breaches dating back to the 2009–10 season.
City are also accused of failing to comply with Premier League requirements for clubs to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules between 2013-14 and 2017-18, as well as failing to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) during the 2015-16 season.
The club, who won an unprecedented fourth consecutive top-flight title in May, said in their submission to the committee they were surprised the league had “published these alleged breaches”.
City said: “The club welcomes a review of the matter by an independent committee to objectively consider the full range of irrefutable evidence supporting its position.”
The hearing is set to begin on Sept. 16 and is expected to last about two months, with a final verdict, including any appeals, expected before the end of the season, sources told ESPN.
If found guilty, Manchester City could face penalties such as points deduction or demotion.
Everton and Nottingham Forest had points deducted last season for breaching PSR rules .
Manchester City was not immediately available for comment, while the Premier League declined to comment.
