September 18 – San Francisco’s Blake Snell struck out 12 in six innings against the host Baltimore Orioles and the Giants won 10–0 on Tuesday night to begin a nine-game road trip.

Mike Yastrzemski finished strong at the plate with a home run and a hit, while LaMonte Wade Jr. and Michael Conforto also drove in two runs. The Giants (73-78) won for the second time in their last seven games.

It was another devastating defeat for the Orioles (84-67), who have lost seven of their last nine games and are struggling to keep up with the American League East-leading New York Yankees’ pace. Baltimore began the day three games behind the Yankees but remains atop the AL wild-card race.

The only hit for LHP Snell (4-3) was Emmanuel Rivera’s second-inning single. Snell reached base twice but did not return for the seventh time after throwing 98 pitches.

Baltimore’s top five hitters compiled a 0–14 record against Snell, with eight strikeouts.

Sean Hazel, Eric Miller, Tyler Rodgers and Tristan Baker completed the five-hitter team.

The Orioles’ offense has struggled the past few weeks heading into a six-game homestand. Baltimore’s second hit against the Giants came on a pinch-hitter by Heston Kjerstad with one out in the seventh inning.

Albert Suarez (8-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings, allowing two four-base balls and striking out three.

Yastrzemski started the game off with his 16th home run of the season. The Giants took the lead in the second inning when Brett Wisely’s sacrifice fly led to the second run, followed by Yastrzemski’s two-out single to extend the lead to 3–0.

Grant McCaffrey scored three runs. He hit a single to start the fourth, stole second base and scored on Donovan Walton’s single.

McCaffrey scored the first of six runs for San Francisco on Wisley’s sacrifice bunt in the ninth inning.

The Orioles got help from the bullpen, with Keegan Akin (2 2/3 innings) and Burch Smith (2 innings) allowing no runs. Craig Kimbrel allowed a run in the ninth inning.
