HANOI, Sept 19 (Askume) – Shortly after northern Vietnam was hit by powerful Typhoon Yagi, the government meteorological agency said a tropical storm was expected to hit central Vietnam later on Thursday, bringing heavy rain and potentially dangerous flooding.

The storm, named “typhoon No. 4” in Vietnam, will hit the coast from Quang Tri to Quang Nam province in the evening, with winds of up to 102 kilometers per hour (63 mph), the agency said in a report.

The Southeast Asian country is grappling with Typhoon Yagi , the strongest storm to hit Asia this year, which made landfall in northern Vietnam nearly two weeks ago. The storm killed more than 290 people and caused about US$1.6 billion in property damage.

Typhoon No. 4 will dump 100 to 300 millimeters (4 to 12 inches) of rain on central Vietnam, including the tourist resort of Da Nang, from Thursday to Friday, the agency said in a report.

According to reports, the rains will also impact the Central Highlands, Vietnam’s biggest coffee-producing region.
