September 19 – The Brooklyn Nets will retire Vince Carter’s number 15 jersey before their home game against the Miami Heat on January 25, 2025.

Carter’s jersey will be the team’s seventh retired jersey, joining Drazen Petrovic (No. 3), Jason Kidd (No. 5), John Williamson (No. 23), Bill Melchionni (No. 25) and Julius Erving (No. 25).

“We are pleased to pay tribute to former Nets player Vince Carter, who made tremendous contributions to our team on and off the court,” Nets General Manager Joe Tsai said. “He is an important part of Nets history and we look forward to welcoming him to Barclays Center this season and celebrating his legacy.”

Carter, a member of the 2024 Hall of Fame class, averaged 23.6 points per game in four seasons with the then-New Jersey Nets from 2004-09.

Carter, 47, still holds the team’s NBA-era single-season scoring record of 2,070 points, set in the 2006-07 season.

Carter, an eight-time All-Star who won the 1998-99 Rookie of the Year award, is the only player in NBA history to play the game for 40 years. The 1998 first-round pick retired after the 2019-20 season with 25,728 points in 1,541 games with eight NBA teams.
