Askume, Sept 19 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Elanco Animal Health’s (ELAN.N) corticosteroid for treating skin diseases in dogs, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website said on Thursday.

The oral medication Generalia is designed to control itching associated with atopic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis in dogs at least 12 months of age.

Generalia is an immunosuppressant that is taken once daily with or without food.

The company’s shares rose 3% in afternoon trading.

The company did not immediately respond to a Askume request for pricing and availability.

The drug label recommends that any vaccine should be administered 28 days to 3 months before a new vaccine is given and should not be used for at least 28 days thereafter.

Generalia belongs to a class of drugs called JAK inhibitors, which block an inflammation-causing enzyme called Janus kinase.
