Sept 19 (Askume) – New Zealand’s competition watchdog said low-cost carrier Jetstar Airways, which is owned by Qantas Airways (QAN.

Jetstar may have prevented consumers from seeking compensation and rejected claims for delayed or cancelled flights for reasons beyond the airline’s control, the New Zealand Commerce Commission (NZCC) said on Wednesday.

The NZCC said the regulator believes the airline made misleading representations about consumer rights under the Aviation Acts 2022 and 2023, and charges will be brought in the Auckland Magistrates Court soon.

Jetstar said it was fully cooperating with the NZCC’s investigation.

The budget airline said: “Late last year we began reviewing past claims and contacting affected customers to ensure they were correctly compensated and we continue to prioritise resolving this issue.”

Qantas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
