MILAN, Sept 19 (Askume) – Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI) plans to offer early retirement options to its 3,000 employees and has met representatives of Italy’s biggest bank to discuss a stimulus package, union sources said on Thursday.

Under the proposal, bank employees who are eligible for pension by the end of 2028 will be allowed to retire early, with the first retirement expected before the end of this year, sources said.

Italian banks have traditionally laid off staff voluntarily under a costly scheme in which workers take early retirement and continue to receive most of their salaries while they receive a state pension.

Intesa could not immediately be reached for comment.
