September 20 – The WNBA’s star-studded rookie class sets record broadcast and attendance records, helping to drive record sports betting activity heading into the 2024 regular season.

BetMGM reports a 108% increase in WNBA betting this season, with the number of women betting on the league doubling.

Indiana’s star rookie Caitlin Clark once again led the surge in interest in the game, with the Fever playing in six of the first eight games, making it the highest wager in history. Clark’s prop wager was five times larger than the second-highest wager on Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese.

BetMGM sports trader Hannah Luther said: “Caitlin Clark has emerged as a star player, while veterans like Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson continue to dominate. The growth has been impressive. “The continued interest in Clark props and the Fanatic Moneyline, as well as the large number of bets placed on the Fanatic, make Clark’s impact on the league undeniable.

“We expect this trend to continue into the playoffs, which will be extremely competitive and exciting.”

Indiana (20-19) will finish the regular season on Thursday night against the host Washington Mystics.

Clarke’s encouraging first season included two record-breaking results in the Fever’s final two games.

On Friday, he broke the league’s single-season assist record with his 317th assist in a 78-74 home win over the Aces. Clarke scored a career-high 35 points against the Dallas Wings on Sunday to reach 761 points on the season, surpassing Semyon Augustus (744 points with Minnesota in 2006) for the record for most points among rookies. Indiana beat Dallas 110-109.
