Sept. 20—New York Yankees star Juan Soto needed X-rays on his left knee after colliding with the wall during a 3–2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Soto chased a foul ball that hit the right field wall and made a spectacular slide catch. But he injured his knee after the game and had to receive treatment.

“I thought the way he slid out was good for him,” New York head coach Aaron Boone said afterward. “It affected the feelings a lot.”

The Yankees decided to take Soto for precautionary X-rays and hope he will be able to play Friday against the Oakland Athletics.

Soto admitted he was worried when he got up and threw the ball into the field. He grabbed his left knee and rolled to the ground, feeling very uncomfortable.

“I’m really worried,” Soto said. “I walked right into the concrete and when I threw the ball, I felt a lot of pain in my knee. Of course, over time, (the pain) started to subside and it started to feel better. Of course, it felt good. “It was a little scary.

Soto went 0-for-3 with a walk on Thursday. In his first season with the Yankees, he hit .286 with 40 home runs, 103 RBIs and 120 runs in 149 games.

Soto, 25, will become a free agent at the end of this season.
