AMSTERDAM, Sept 20 (Askume) – Netherlands-based “mechatronics” equipment maker NTS Group opened a huge new assembly and manufacturing plant in Singapore on Friday with suppliers including neighbouring giant ASML (ASML.AS) and other semiconductor companies.
Mechatronics integrates mechanical, electronic and software systems. NTS is a well-known supplier of highly complex metrology systems, the most well-known of which include Lam Research, Applied Materials (AMAT.O) , Thermo Fisher (TMO.N) and ASML.
Eindhoven-based NTS is the latest in a series of Dutch semiconductor industry companies to increase production capacity in Asian countries outside China following tensions between China and the United States .
The company also has assembly capabilities in Shanghai and recently opened a U.S. office in Milpitas, California.
The company’s new CEO Frans van Lierop said in a statement: “The global demand for ultra-precision components and modules continues to grow.” Van Lierop, a former ASML supply chain manager, assumed the top position at NTS in May this year.
The company did not disclose the size of the investment, but a spokesperson said the factory covers an area of 20,000 square metres and has 300 employees.
