Sept 20 (Askume) – The Polish Football Association (PZPN) announced more than $450,000 in funds to help clubs affected by severe flooding in central Europe, the worst in the region in two decades .

The floods have killed at least 24 people, including 7 in Poland, and Wrocław, Poland’s third-largest city, is suffering heavy damage.

“Together with the presidents of the provincial associations we have decided to donate PLN 1.75 million to help the clubs affected by the floods,” PZPN president Cezary Kulesza wrote on Friday on X.

Top-flight club Wroclaw postponed Monday’s home game against Starmelek and turned its stadium into a fundraiser for those affected by the floods.

The club has also launched a flood relief fundraiser, and players and coaches have travelled to affected areas to distribute daily necessities.

The European Union has pledged billions of euros to help the sector, with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk saying the country could get up to 5 billion euros ($5.59 billion).
