WARSAW, Sept 20 (Askume) – Polish authorities have arrested a former lawyer for the late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky in an investigation linked to attacks on Russian opposition figures, Polish radio reported on Friday.

Polish private radio station RMF FM said Russian independent media had earlier reported the arrest of the lawyer, whom prosecutors referred to only as Anatoly B.

A spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the arrests but declined to disclose the reasons.

“I can confirm that Mr Anatoly B. was detained and charged in Poland… The court sentenced him to three months of pre-trial arrest,” the spokesman told Askume.

NATO member Poland has arrested several people in recent months in connection with sabotage on its territory, which it says was carried out on orders from Russia.

In April, two men were detained on suspicion of attacking exiled senior politician Leonid Volkov, an assistant to the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny .

Berezovsky, one of the most powerful men in Russia in the 1990s, fell out with President Vladimir Putin and fled to London in 2000, where he was later granted political asylum.

The 67-year-old tycoon was found dead in the bathroom of a luxury home near London in March 2013 with a scarf tied around his neck. His family feared he may have been murdered by Russia’s enemies, but British police and forensic experts concluded Berezovsky had committed suicide.
