Sept 21 (Askume) – Emma Raducanu withdrew from the Korea Open quarter-finals with a foot injury on Saturday while third seed Beatrice Haddad Maia defeated her sisters Polina and Veronika Kudermetova to reach the Korea Open final.
Former US Open champion Raducanu injured her left leg after a medical timeout and struggled to serve and double faulted and was unable to continue serving after returning to the court.
The 21-year-old British player was eliminated after losing the first set 6-1 to Kasatkina.
Raducanu’s foot injury also appeared in her round of 16 match against Chinese player Yuan Yu, when she continued playing after a medical timeout and won 6-4, 6-3.
After the game, Kasatkina said: “I feel sorry for Emma… it’s sad to be injured, especially in the final stages of the game.” “I wish her a speedy recovery.”
Kasatkina was back in action on Saturday, with Friday’s match postponed twice because of rain in Seoul. In the semifinals, she defeated fellow Russian fourth seed Diana Schnyder, who was exhausted due to injury, 6-3, 6-4.
Schnyder, who just hours earlier defeated fifth seed Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-finals, lost three games in a row after a medical timeout in the second set of the semi-finals to allow Kasatkina to advance to the final, where she will face Brazilian Timo Hada in the final.
Haddad Maya beat lucky loser Polina 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals earlier in the day and defeated Kudermetov 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals to beat baby sister, former French Open quarterfinalist Veronica.
“I improved a little bit from the first match today, so I’m happy,” U.S. Open quarterfinalist Haddad Maia said after reaching her second final this year. “I’ll have another chance to do better tomorrow.”
