September 23 – Jake Bauers hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning and the host Milwaukee Brewers overcame an eight-run deficit Sunday afternoon to win a 10-9 point victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Milwaukee (89-67) fell behind 8-0 when Arizona scored seven third runs, including back-to-back home runs by Josh Bell, who hit a two-run blaster, as well as two-run singles by Eugenio Suarez and Jake McCarthy.

But the Brewers slowly battled back, scoring four points in the eighth to complete a stunning rally.

With two outs, Garrett Mitchell hit an RBI single to left, and Rhys Hoskins later tied the game with a two-run double and a single 9–3. Willy Adames followed with a double, and then Bowles hit a home run to give Milwaukee their first lead of the game.

Randall Grichuk singled in a run in the eighth to give the Diamondbacks (87-69) a 9-6 lead.

Jared Koenig (9-4) earned the win in an easy set. Devin Williams drew his 13th walk of the year in the ninth inning.

Justin Martinez (5-6) gave up an RBI single to Ball, who took the loss.

The race for the National League’s final two wild-card spots is tied between the Diamondbacks and New York Mets, with both teams two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

After Arizona scored seven runs, Blake Perkins hit an RBI single in the home run of the third quarter to give the Brewers the win. An inning later, Sal Fralic’s RBI double and Joey Ortiz’s sacrifice fly cut Milwaukee’s deficit to 8–3.

Jackson Chourio continued the Brewers’ comeback by driving in a run in the sixth inning. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Hoskins and Adams gave the home team an 8–6 lead heading into the seventh inning.

Milwaukee made 9 of 18 shots and stayed in scoring position.

After Pavin Smith struck out early in the game, Ketel Marte hit his 35th home run of the season to give the Diamondbacks a 1–0 lead.

Brewers starter Frankie Montas allowed eight runs (7 ERA) and six hits in 2 2/3 innings. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Arizona starter Jordan Montgomery allowed three runs on six hits in a 4 1/3 game. He walked two batters and struck out six.

Adams scored a game-high three points as Milwaukee beat the Diamondbacks 16-9.
