CAIRO, Sept 14 (Askume) – Two passenger trains collided in the town of Zagazik, northeast of Cairo, killing at least three people and injuring 49 others, Egypt’s health ministry said on Saturday.

The health ministry said the condition of five injured was unstable.

The ministry said the injured were taken to hospital and “rescue operations are underway”.

The railway administration said in a statement that one train was going from Zagazig to Ismailia and the other train was going from Mansoura city to Zagazig.

Egypt has been working for years to improve its outdated transportation network, modernizing trains and developing rail lines.
