Each celebrity has their own season: Mariah Carey is the “Queen of Christmas” (though that’s a little controversial), Nicole Kidman is apparently the “true spring” according to color analysis theory, and Megan Thee Stallion’s Taryn is always the hottest girl. While some could certainly argue that fall belongs to Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, personally I’ve spent many beautiful fall afternoons rewatching Gilmore Girls and that’s enough to last me a lifetime. So I nominate Meg Ryan, queen of cozy vibes and cropped coats and star of many memorable sweater-for-weather movies like “When Harry Met Sally,” for the title of “High Priestess of Fall.”

Ryan, a mother of two children, Daisy and Jack, will turn 62 this November, which is perfect; I mean, would you expect someone to be in the headlines almost every day with a birthday in July? For me, welcoming the cooler months of September and October has always been akin to knitting a sari by Claire Saffitz to celebrate Rosh Hashanah while I watch Harry and Sally pretend not to love each other… Joe Ryan has a) become my ultimate seasonal style icon and b) perhaps strangely wrapped up in my concept of Jewish identity.

Like Ryan today, I live in California and the weather and climate in early October are summer-like (i.e. summer, celebrity-filled, not even a leaf changing), so I celebrate the change of season with the love of my life. Tailored silhouettes and fabulous accessories keep Ryan at the forefront of fashion both on and off the screen. Join me below for 31 vintage photos of a young Meg Ryan:
