On the latest episode of The Run Through, Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière chats with Nicole Phelps ahead of the designer’s Spring 2025 show on October 1. After celebrating ten years as womenswear creative director, Ghesquière explained that the show will mark the “beginning of a new chapter” for the brand. “You know how much of the show’s history involves a journey, so there’s a journey going on. I wanted to express a new kind of renaissance,” he said. Exciting words from one of our most visionary designers, who has spent his career exploring different visions of the future.

The French designer spoke about his childhood, revealing that he began interning at designer studios at the age of 14 (which would be completely illegal today), eventually working at Jean Paul at the age of 18. The job, which set him on the path that brought him to where he is today. In 2013, when he was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton, he is full of joy today. “I unveiled the new vocabulary of LV.”

Ghesquière also revealed his future dream project — which you might not have thought of, but if you’ve been keeping an eye on his career over the past three decades, you won’t be surprised that it’s where he most likely wants to be, and talked about how he looks to it for inspiration again and again.

“Fashion used to be for weird people,” Ghesquière said in a recent interview with Askew, which immediately became a topic of discussion on social media (and at least a few group chats). Phelps invited him to elaborate on the idea: “It’s its own little world, and it’s fun,” he explains. “You used to feel safer there because people were more willing to accept the new world. In some way, I’m glad that this new world exists today on a larger scale. The reason why fashion is so successful is because so many people believe they can celebrate differences and find a beautiful unity in all those differences.
