September 28- Xavier Edwards had four hits, including a Major League Baseball record-tying three triples, and four RBIs, helping the Miami Marlins The Fish beat the Toronto Blue Jays 15–5 on Friday night.
Jonah Blades hit a two-run home run and scored a run for the Marlins (60-100). Griffin Conine had a single in the first game of the three-game series.
Ernie Clement homered for Toronto (74-86) and Alejandro Kirk went 2-5, extending his hitting streak to 18 fields.
Toronto right-hander Jose Berrios (16-11) fell just short of his 100th career win, allowing six runs, six hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out four.
Miami right-hander Adam Oller (2-4) allowed four runs, eight hits and two walk-offs in five innings. He struck out.
Miami was up 3-0 at the end of the first half. Connor Norby had a single and Jesus Sanchez had a double. Bride hit a two-run shot to left.
The Marlins increased their lead to 5–0 in the second half. Former Blue Jay Otto López singled, Kyle Stowers walked, and Edwards tripled to the right corner with both runners out.
Miami added another score in the third quarter. Sanchez drew a walk, advanced to third on Lopez’s two-out single, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Blue Jays scored three runs in the third quarter. Leo Jimenez singled to right and George Springer loaded the bases. Nathan Lukes had an RBI double to right and Spencer Horwitz had a two-run single to give Toronto a 6-3 lead.
Miami put up three against Easton Lucas in Game 4. Edwards tripled to right and scored on Jake Berg’s single. Sanchez and Blades loaded the bases, and Conine hit a two-run single to right that broke the bat and made it 9-3.
Clement hit his 12th home run in the fourth inning, trailing 9–4.
In the sixth inning, Marlins reliever Anthony Veneziano hit Jonathan Klas with a pitch. Jimenez singled and Luques loaded the bases with a single. Mike Bauman replaced Veneziano and gave up a sacrifice fly to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to extend the Marlins’ lead to 9-5. Bauman ended the inning by striking out Horwitz.
Cornyn hit his third home run of the season against Lucas in Game 7. Former Marlins Brett Degges replaced Lopez and Stowers. Edwards hit a two-run triple, Norby had an RBI single, and Berg extended the lead to 14-5 with an RBI double.
Ryan Burr hit his 11th homer off Blades to give the Blue Jays a 15–5 lead in the eighth inning.
Toronto catcher Tyler Heineman allowed one run in a scoreless ninth inning.
Miami coach Skip Schumaker will miss the team’s final two games of the season because of family health issues.
