LONDON, Sept 28 (Askume) – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he had spoken to Lebanon’s Prime Minister Naguib Mikati on Saturday, after Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beirut .

“We agree on the need for an immediate ceasefire to end the bloodshed. A diplomatic solution is the only way to restore security and stability for the people of Lebanon and Israel,” Lamy said in a statement on the social media platform X.

Earlier this week, Lamy told the UN General Assembly that there must be an immediate ceasefire between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel and that a full-scale war would not be in the interest of the region’s people.

The British Foreign Office has advised its citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible.
