Deciding what to wear for Halloween can be difficult, but coming up with the perfect costume idea for you and your best friend, significant other, or partner can be nearly impossible. If our previous list of celebrity Halloween costumes left you unsatisfied, don’t worry: This year, we decided to make things even better for you by bringing together some of the most iconic pop culture couples from TV and film. Before you RSVP to all those Halloween parties, take a look at our couple costume ideas below.
Bella Hadid and Adam Banuelos
This pair of cowboys is sure to inspire costumed couples of varying degrees of accuracy, but whoever can pull off a believable fake horse (or real horse, if you can somehow obtain one) will get a bonus of extra points.
Renee Rapp and Tovar Bird
Playing this pair of lesbian pop stars essentially requires wearing the same outfits as one (or two) of the guys who played Betty and Tina on The L Word, albeit with a fun Gen Z twist.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
To emulate perhaps the most powerful celebrity couple of all, all you need is a Chiefs jersey, a blonde wig cut to the same length as Swift’s hair, and a convertible to drive away from the big game.
Divorced father energy class Affleck and thriving Jennifer Lopez
Of the two, J.Lo should wear a Hamptons-appropriate summer white dress, while Ben clearly needs a fake hawk and a Red Hot Chili Peppers t-shirt. To really get the authenticity of your couple’s costume, break up in the middle of your Halloween party.
Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
This one’s just for the lesbians among us! It’s time to put your age-gap relationship to good use ahead of Halloween – provided, of course, that the younger partner can convince the older partner to join them for a big, scary night.
Jean Smart and Hannah Ebinder in “The Crackers”
It’s not all that different from Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson’s costumes (both of which required at least one blonde wig), just more costume-wise androgynous energy and hopeless disdain. (JK, in real life they’re best friends and we love it!)
Jeremy Allen White and Molly Gordon
The newest would-be couple on the block has stirred up enough buzz to make this outfit a hot item, not to mention a simple one. All you need are some Screen Actors Guild Awards and two packs of American Spirits – the latter of which is for Jeremy!
Art and Patrick in “The Contender”
I mean…they’re a real couple, right? If you have a really cool, well-dressed female friend, give her one of Loewe’s I Told YA shirts and let her be Zendaya.
Amy Adams, regular, and dog in “Night Bitch”
No, the movie hasn’t been released yet, so we’re just finishing the trailer, but you’ll want to wear this costume before Halloween 2025 arrives.
Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs
This is a great couples costume for a clash, especially if you love the 1980s. If you already have some tennis clothes, you’re almost set: you just need a vest and skirt for Billie Jean and a polo shirt for Bobby. Also important, if you can, are a Billie Jean-style wig and two pairs of oversized ’80s glasses (this should work for a trip to Goodwill). Grab some rackets and pose for photos!
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman
Paying homage to Casablanca this Halloween couldn’t be easier — simply dress up as Bogart’s Rick in a fedora, strappy trench coat, white shirt and tie, and play Bogart as Ilsa in a crisp white shirt and practical skirt suit.
Eleven and Dustin
There are many online stores that sell Stranger Things costumes, but you can make these costumes from any thrift store. For Eleven, a pink dress, tube socks and a blonde wig were enough, her face was dirty and her nose was bleeding and she needed makeup. Dustin needs a trucker hat, a curly wig, a t-shirt and a bomber jacket. Even better if you can find someone to trick-or-treat with you as a giant evil alien creature.
Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler
If you want to go somewhere special on Halloween night, this costume inspired by Gone With the Wind is a mesmerizing choice. As for the wig, Scully had to have black curly hair while Rhett wanted a gentle mustache. The hoop skirt and double-breasted suit may be hard to find in your closet, but if you can get to a clothing store, this couple costume is sure to be a hit.
Pennywise and the Children
Sometimes, the best costumes for couples are a departure from convention. If this quote resonates with you, you couldn’t be further from the truth than Pennywise and the child he lured into the sewers. Pennywise is a very easy costume to make with a red wig, red nose, white makeup and a very evil face. It’s even easier with kids – all you need is a hooded yellow raincoat – and a child’s innocent love for clowns.
Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley
Choose your favorite Audrey and Elvis from Big Little Lies – Audrey from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Elvis in a leather jacket, or Audrey from My Fair Lady and Elvis from Vegas. The possibilities are endless. Or, put people together, wear tracksuits and be the “Big Little Lies women jogging on the beach”. We have your back.
Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy
If you’re still up for your nightly cheese, an ash-brown wig with square glasses, a hoodie, and a pair of jeans will make you an insta-lemon. Jack just needs a suit and a glass of whiskey to keep you company all night. (The piercing blue eyes of a Siberian Husky are optional.)
Ilana and Abby
You can easily transform yourself into the Broad City best friend using clothes you already have in your closet. Abby’s Solstice uniform can be recreated with a track top, leggings, and a matching sweatband; if you’re feeling really clever, you can use a permanent marker to write the logo on your top. Ilana’s final costume was equally simple: it consisted of shorts, a bare midriff, a pair of sneakers, and some wildly tousled hair.
Benson and Stabler
You can pay homage to Law & Order: SVU without committing a heinous crime. Formal overalls paired with a badge and holster will make you feel guilty at any Halloween party you attend.
Lucille and George Michael Bruce
Who says Motherboy can’t be celebrated on Halloween? In “Arrested Development,” Lucille and George Michael wear sailor suits and recall an inconvenient incident as they awkwardly try to win the annual mother-son dinner dance.
Buffy and Angel
This Halloween, fight evil the best way you know how, by dressing up as the hottest couple of the 90s, courtesy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The most important items in Buffy’s wardrobe are a strappy tank top and leggings with a stake in hand, while Angel only needs a signature leather jacket and lots of hairspray.
jimmy and titus
If you’re still singing “Peeno Noir” loudly and clapping your hands using minimalist techniques, look no further than Kimmy and Titus from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. For Kimmy, her signature floral shirt, pink pants, yellow sweater and backpack will make you stand out from the crowd. And Titus is impossible to blend in: For this outfit, you can find the most striking color combination in your closet (or, if you prefer, a silk kimono) and tie a scarf around your neck.
Doug Finney and Patty Mayonnaise
Anyone born in the late 1980s or early 1990s will tell you that Doug was a very important figure in their growing up years. Follow Patty and live out your childhood dreams in a yellow wig, a blue shirt with pink spots (paint it, sew it, whatever you can do!), a dark skirt and pink flats. For Doug, a white shirt with a green tank top and a pair of workman shorts will leave no doubt about who you are. Both cartoon characters are wearing sneakers and high socks, but we’ll make that element optional.
Nina and Lily
Few movies are as unforgettable as Black Swan, and Nina and Lily are the perfect pair for Halloween costumes. Both costumes can include tutus, feathers, and headdresses. Perhaps decide in advance who will be the white swan and who will be the black swan.
cher and dionne
Are you and your best friend huge fans of Clueless? All you have to do for this Halloween is find a plaid skirt and jacket combo: yellow for Cher, dark blue for Dionne, and pair it with a cute hat.
Regina and Cady
Here are two “Mean Girls”-inspired options: a sexy Santa costume in honor of the Plastics’ famous dance moves, or a tank top (boob holes optional) and pink miniskirt if you’re more in tune with the “Mean Girls” vibes you’d want to hang out in together.
Jim and Pam
Put on some simple work clothes and you can transform into Dunder Mifflin’s most famous couple. For her part, Pam wore her hair half-back and a plain skirt, white blouse and pink sweater. The highlight for Jim was his shaggy hair and button-down shirt with optional tie. Don’t forget to look at each other lovingly from time to time.
Woody and Buzz Lightyear
Take your nostalgia to the next level and become the toy you loved most from your childhood and every time you watch the tear-jerking Toy Story. All you need is a cowboy sheriff suit and some sort of winged robot costume, and you’ll be singing “You Are My Friend” in no time.
Dalia and Jane
“You’re Standing on My Neck” is one of the weirdest theme songs of all time, but that doesn’t mean the star of MTV’s sarcastic and wonderful Oatmeal isn’t a perfect choice for Halloween. For Oatmeal, you’ll need a dark red wig, a green military jacket, an orange shirt, a pleated skirt, big goggles, and combat boots. For her gothic bestie, a short wig, a black v-neck shirt with shorts and leggings, and a light red coat with clunky black boots will have you ready to cause mischief all night long.
