Sept. 9 – NFL Network reported Monday that Pittsburgh Steelers punter Cameron Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury during Sunday’s win over Atlanta.
Johnson, who was also protecting kicker Chris Boswell, was injured late in the fourth quarter when a Falcons player fell on his kicking leg.
After the Steelers’ punt was declined, Boswell replaced Johnson and completed a 43-yard punt. Pittsburgh has no other punters on its roster or practice squad.
Johnson, 32, signed a three-year, $9 million contract this offseason and averaged 51.5 yards on two punts in an 18-10 win over the Falcons in the season opener.
Prior to joining the Steelers, Johnson played three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (2018-20) and Houston Texans (2021-23). In 2021, he led the NFL in punts (88) and total yards (4,108).
