Sept. 9—Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson is expected to recover from a knee injury he suffered during Sunday’s 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

With 6:11 left in the third quarter, Ferguson was knocked out of the game after receiving a ball from 2 yards out. He tried to avoid a tackle but landed awkwardly on his left leg and then needed a coach to help him off the field.

After the game, NFL Network reported that initial tests found no ACL damage and X-rays came back negative. Ferguson will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott said of the severity of Ferguson’s injury, “I think we avoided a major injury.”

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Ferguson is optimistic and eager to win.

On Sunday, Ferguson, 25, had three catches for 15 yards.

Last season, Ferguson caught 71 passes for 761 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games (16 starts).
