Sept 10 (Askume) – Microsoft (MSFT.O) will hold a summit on Tuesday to discuss steps taken by CrowdStrike (CRWD.O) to improve its cybersecurity systems after a global IT shutdown caused by a software update error in July .
The release is Microsoft’s first major step toward resolving the issues that affected about 8.5 million Windows devices on July 19 and disrupted operations in industries from major airlines to banking and health care.
The event will be held at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington and government representatives will also be invited to attend.
The July outage raised concerns that many organizations were not adequately prepared to implement contingency plans in case a single point of failure, such as an IT system or software within it, failed. The outage also highlighted the risks of relying on a single vendor to provide a one-stop security solution, analysts said.
Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) said it is pursuing legal claims against CrowdStrike and Microsoft after the outage led to massive flight cancellations and cost the airline at least $500 million in losses.
