CAIRO, Sept 11 (Askume) – The Palestinian Hamas group said on Wednesday its negotiators had expressed a willingness to implement an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza in line with previous U.S. proposals but no side had proposed new conditions.

The Palestinian group said in a statement that the negotiating team led by senior official Khalil Haya held talks on Wednesday in Doha and Gaza with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Sani and mediators, including Abbas Kamil, the head of the Egyptian intelligence service.

Talks to end the 11-month war have so far failed. Unresolved issues include control of the Philadelphia Corridor , a narrow strip of land along Gaza’s border with Egypt.

William Burns, the CIA director and chief US negotiator on Gaza, said on Saturday that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be presented in the coming days.

A proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden in June called for a three-phase ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages.

According to Israeli figures, the latest war in Gaza began on October 7 after Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages. The health ministry in Gaza said at least 41,084 Palestinians have been killed and 95,029 others injured in Israeli attacks so far.
