NEW YORK, Sept 11 (Askume) – The U.S. presidential debate between Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump attracted 67.1 million television viewers, according to Nielsen data released on Wednesday.

Tuesday night’s event was the first in-person meeting of candidates for the Nov. 5 presidential election.

The number of viewers who watched Trump’s debate with then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in June was about 51 million, up from 56 million.

This does not cover the full spectrum of online viewing, which has grown in popularity as traditional TV ratings have declined.

TV viewership for presidential debates reached a record high in 2016, when 84 million people tuned in to watch the debate between Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Trump.
