Sept 11 (Askume) – Pop star Taylor Swift received more than 9 million “likes” on an Instagram post supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid, joining other celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, U.S. basketball star Caitlin Clark and Selena Gomez.

Shortly after Democrat Harris finished her debate with Republican rival Donald Trump on Tuesday night , Swift, 34, told her 283 million followers that Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, would get their vote in the Nov. 5 election .

Her post encouraged first-time voters to register for the election, and a General Services Administration spokeswoman said Wednesday that the custom URL shared by Swift brought 337,826 visitors to vote.gov.

Swift tweeted, “I’m voting for @KamalaHarris because she fights for the rights and issues I think need a warrior to push them forward.” She called Harris a “steady, talented leader” who is capable of leading the country into peace instead of chaos.

In her post, Swift posed with her cat, on which she wrote “cat lady with no kids,” a reference to Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance, who in a 2021 interview called some Democrats who don’t have kids a “cat lady clique.” She later said it was a sarcastic comment.

Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’s brother and supermodel Karlie Kloss liked Swift’s post.

“Parks and Recreation” and “White Lotus” actress Aubrey Plaza reiterated her support for Swift in an Instagram post of her own on Wednesday, in which she held a cat with the caption “Harris Waltz” and an American flag emoji that read “was.”

I would defend Trump supporter Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of a social media platform.

His messages were labelled “disgusting”, “misogynistic” and “creepy”.

“I’ve done my research and made my choice,” Swift wrote to her followers on Instagram. “You have to do your research and make your choice. I would also say especially to first-time voters: remember, you have to be registered to vote!”

Swift wrote that she was impressed with Minnesota Governor Walz, describing him as someone who “has defended LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”

Waltz, who was on MSNBC when the ad was released, said she was “so grateful” and urged the singer’s huge fan base of “Swifties” to “get to work.”

Shortly after Swift’s endorsement, Harris-Walz Events announced pre-orders for their latest event apparel: friendship bracelets inspired by Swift fans.

      Trump refuses to endorse

Trump on Wednesday dismissed Harris’ endorsement of Swift, saying he’s “not a fan of Taylor.”

“It’s just a matter of time. She’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support the Democrats. Maybe she’ll pay the price for that in the market,” Trump said in an interview on Fox News.

In August, Trump posted a fake photo of Swift on social media, urging people to vote for him in the November election.

Swift alluded to this in her post on Tuesday, saying that Trump “really highlighted my fears about artificial intelligence and the dangers of spreading misinformation.”

He added, “This brings me to the conclusion that as a voter I need to be very transparent about the actual plan for this election.”

Surveys show that there is a tough competition between the two candidates.

Harris, who supports abortion rights, criticized Trump for appointing three Supreme Court justices who helped overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which ensured a constitutional right to abortion in 2022.

Trump defended the court’s ruling on abortion but said a federal abortion ban was unnecessary and that the issue should be addressed at the state level.

Swift endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020. Several Hollywood actors, producers, and filmmakers have said they consider Harris, a former U.S. Senator from California, to be their hometown candidate.
