OSLO, Sept 12 (Askume) – Finland’s TVO said on Thursday it had identified the cause of a failure at the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear generator and expected the plant to resume generation by the end of September, in line with previous estimates.

The outage at OL2 began on September 9 due to increased humidity in the turbine power plant’s generators.

“The problem has been identified as a water-cooled generator rotor failure,” TVO said in a statement Thursday.

OL2 has a nominal power generation capacity of 890 MW, and its power accounts for about 8% of Finland’s electricity consumption.

TVO said Olkiluoto’s OL1 and OL3 units were operating normally.
