PARIS, Sept 12 (Askume) – About 80 villagers were evacuated from a wildfire raging in the mountains of southwestern France on Thursday, authorities said.

The local governor’s office said the fire broke out at around 3pm and spread to 400 hectares of land in the Pyrénées-Orientales department.

There were no reports of property damage or injuries to people evacuated from the village of Castelnu, about 30 kilometres (18 mi) southwest of the city of Perpignan.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin posted on Twitter that a total of 300 firefighters, nine planes and three helicopters were deployed.
