LOS ANGELES, Sept 12 (Askume) – A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the Southern California city of Malibu and other parts of the Los Angeles area, but there were no initial reports of damage or casualties, the U.S. Geological Survey said on Thursday.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 7:28 a.m. about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) north of Malibu at a depth of about 11.3 kilometers (7.0 miles) and was followed by several quakes ranging from magnitude 2.7 to 3.4.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said it had completed its seismic pattern and no major damage to infrastructure or injuries were detected.

Residents in the Malibu area told local television they felt intense shaking for 20 to 30 seconds, while people living along the coast and in downtown Los Angeles said they also felt shaking and rolling.
