MADRID, Sept 11 (Askume) – Zara will offer used clothes for sale, repair or donation in the United States until the end of October in a bid to extend the life cycle of used clothing and reduce waste, its owner Inditex said on Wednesday.

Zara’s “second-hand” platform is already operating in 16 European countries after launching in the UK in November 2022

Inditex (ITX.MC) previously said it was committed to operating the platform in all strategic markets by 2025 as part of its strategy to help reduce raw material consumption.

The service is available through Zara stores, its website and apps in countries including Spain, France and Germany.

Zara has not disclosed figures on how many customers have used the service in markets where it is available, but Inditex Chief Executive Oscar Garcia Maceiras said its online platform receives more than 22 million visitors a day.

Other fast fashion retailers such as H&M also offer products for resale. Second-hand H&M merchandise can be purchased in the United States through independent websites in partnership with ThredUp.

Zara will also launch live shopping shows in the United States and other key markets such as Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands in the coming months , Inditex’s chief executive said after reporting first-half earnings .

TikTok’s Chinese sister site Douyin, which broadcasts five hours of live shopping shows every week in China, has helped boost Zara’s sales since its launch in November , retail analytics firm EDITED said.
