Sept 12 (Askume) – American businessman John Textor said he was in an “awkward position” to take over Everton because the club owns another Premier League team, Crystal Palace. Details are limited but he is working on it.

Texter sold his stake in Crystal Palace to majority shareholder Farhad MoshiriEverton, who is in the process of taking over Everton , has told Sky Sports he is very close to knowing who will buy his 45% stake in the south London club.

Dexter says he believes Everton’s accounting issues, which led to them being docked eight points last season for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) , are manageable.

When asked about the challenges of completing the deal he said: “I am in a strange position but we are working on it. The strange thing is that I understand the situation of the club… the accounting situation. I think it is controllable.” As far as the PSR issues are concerned.

Dexter’s company Eagle Football Group also owns shares in other clubs, including Ligue 1 team Olympique Lyonnais, Brazilian team Botafogo and Palace.

“There is a Chinese wall between what I am told as the owner of Crystal Palace and what I am told as the prospective owner of another team in the same division,” the 58-year-old who sent the message said.

“But I think we’re developing solutions to address this information gap, and I think we’re in the final days of feeling comfortable with that.”

Everton’s interim chief executive Colin Chong said the texter’s comments were his “personal opinion” on the matter.

“While formal negotiations for any agreement with Mr Texter are active and progressing, there is still some work to be done to complete the transaction,” Chong said.

“The club will update supporters and other stakeholders on the status of the new investment as and when important news arises – this will be done through the club’s official channels.”

Dexter says he has received several offers to buy a stake in Crystal Palace and “it will take us a week or two to identify who the buyer is”, although his bid to buy Everton may still face competing bids.
