TOKYO, Sept 13 (Askume) – Japanese steelmakers Nippon Steel Corp (5401.T) and U.S. Steel Corp (XN) sent a letter to U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday to discuss their $150 billion merger plan. The letter comes after media reports that Biden was preparing to block the deal.

The spokesman did not elaborate on the contents of the letter, but said it was signed by executives including Nippon Steel Chief Executive Eiji Hashimoto and US Steel Chief Executive David Burritt.

US Steel did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside US trading hours. The US Embassy in Japan also did not immediately comment.
