NEW DELHI, Sept 13 (Askume) – Afghanistan’s one-off Test against New Zealand in Greater Noida, India on Friday became the eighth match in the tournament’s history to be abandoned without a bowler on the fifth and final day due to heavy rain.

The first Test between the two sides was a poor one from the start as rain continued to lash the region for over two weeks. This is also the first Test to be held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex near Delhi.

Afghanistan plays its home matches abroad due to security concerns for the touring team.

The Afghan board preferred Greater Noida over the other two locations in India because of its proximity to Delhi, which makes access to Kabul easier.

New Zealand will fly to Sri Lanka on Saturday to play a two-Test series starting September 18 in Galle.
