September 13 โ€“ Juan Soto’s game-ending hit in the bottom of the 10th inning and the New York Yankees beat the visiting Boston Red Sox 2โ€“1 on Thursday night (Boston Red Sox), the first game of a four-game series.

Soto hit a sinker ball off the glove of shortstop Trevor Story to left field off Josh Winckowski (4-2), allowing the backup to score a run, giving the Yankees their fourth win of the season.

Soto’s game-winning hit gave the Yankees their fifth win in seven games and put them two games ahead of the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles. New York has its largest lead in the category since claiming first place on Aug. 21.

Danny Jensen hit a solo home run for the Red Sox, who trailed the Minnesota Twins by 4 1/2 games for the American League’s final wild card.

Rockies 4, Tigers 2

Jacob Stallings doubled and scored twice to lead off the ninth, as Colorado ended host Detroit’s four-game winning streak.

Jordan Baker hit a solo home run for the Rockies. Seth Halvorsen (1-0) earned his first career win with a scoreless inning of relief, while Tyler Kinley earned his 12th win by pitching a scoreless inning in the ninth.

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal went six innings, giving up one run, four hits and striking out six. Spencer Torkelson drove in two runs in the fourth inning for the Tigers.

Cardinals 6, Reds 1

Brandon Donovan hit a two-run homer and Macy Winn added two runs to help host St. Louis beat Cincinnati.

Cardinals starter Sonny Gray (13-9) allowed one run on two hits and two walks in six innings. He had nine strikeouts. It’s a big turnaround for Gray, who lost his first two games against the Reds this season while giving up 12 runs (9 ERA) on 12 hits in 9 1/3 innings. JoJo Romero earned his first save in the last four games.

Reds starter Jakob Junis allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work. He struck out three and did not allow a hit. Reliever Carson Spears (5-6) lost the game.

Astros 6, Track and Field 3

John Singleton had an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give host Houston the lead over Oakland and avoid a three-game winning streak.

After Singleton’s clutch win, Jake Meyers’ RBI double helped Houston save the final game of the three-game series. Jason Heyward was intentionally walked, then Mauricio Dubon drove in two more runs with a single to give Oakland the win.

The Astros faced TJ McFarland (2-3) and Grant Holman in the eighth inning. McFarland allowed only one run, Holman two and each reliever gave up two runs. Houston starter Franbel Valdez was on his way to his seventh win in nine starts, but Leslie’s (2-3) one-out single off Brent Rooker’s reliever Ryan Pugh in the eighth inning tied the score at 2-2.

Marlins 6, Nationals 3

Jonah Bride and Connor Norby each scored two points to help Miami overcome an early three-point deficit and beat host Washington.

After entering the eighth inning, Jake Berger had three hits and Xavier Edwards had two. The Marlins held three relievers hitless and struck out six in four scoreless innings, taking advantage of three Nationals errors to snap a three-game losing streak.

Washington’s Josh Turner belted a two-run double and Dylan Cruz highlighted his two-hit performance with a single in a three-run first inning. Cruz hit a superb slider into the center-right field gap to lead off the sixth for the Nationals, who have lost three of their last four games.

“Yidi 5”, “Parents 2”

Cole Sulser and four other relievers combined to allow one hit and a run by Jose Caballero in seven scoreless innings. Tampa Bay beats Cleveland.

Brandon Lowe hit a home run in Game 1 and Johnny Deluca had a game-winning single in Game 4, helping the Rays recover from three consecutive losses dating back to this week’s win in Philadelphia. Right-hander Ryan Pepiatt started for the Rays but was exited after just two innings, allowing two runs, four walks and four hits.

Gavin Williams (3-9) allowed three runs and seven hits, walking two and striking out five in 5 1/3 innings for the Guardians, who recently won three road games over the Chicago White Sox.

Brewers 3, Giants 0

Frankie Montas pitched six scoreless innings and Jackson Chourio hit his 20th homer as Milwaukee beat San Francisco and took a 2โ€“1 lead in the series.

With the win, the Brewers extended their lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central division to nine games, with both teams having only 16 games remaining. Meanwhile, the Giants are 8 1/2 games out of the race for the final NFC wild-card playoff spot.

Gerald Enkanion had two of five hits for the Giants, who have lost two of their last three games.

Wanderer 5, Sailor 4

Nathaniel Lowe homered and followed with an infield single to give Texas a win over host Seattle in a game that featured acclaimed Rangers pitcher Kumar ยท Kumar Rocker making his major league debut.

Josh Jung and Marcus Semien added individual shots for the Rangers, who won the first game of a four-game series to snap a two-game losing streak. The Mariners are 4 1/2 games behind in both the American League West and the AL wild card round.

Rock, the third overall pick in the 2022 draft, allowed one run on three hits in four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
