SOFIA, Sept 13 (Askume) – A pair of planes crashed during a training flight in Bulgaria on Friday, killing two pilot instructors, a day before a military air show was to be held, the prime minister said.

Acting Prime Minister Gravchev arrived at the crash site at Graf Ignatyevo Airport in central Bulgaria.

Defence Minister Atanas Zapriyanov said the crash occurred at 12:30 (0930 GMT) and killed two pilot instructors.

The Ministry of National Defense said in a statement that the aircraft involved was an L-39ZA advanced training aircraft.

The ministry cancelled an international air show scheduled for Saturday to mark the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria’s membership in NATO and said it was investigating the crash.

Earlier on Friday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, a former commander of the Bulgarian Air Force, co-piloted an F-16 at the same air base.
