WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Askume) – The United States does not plan to announce any new policy on Ukraine and the use of long-range missiles on Friday, the White House said.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters: “Our view on Russia’s providing long-range strike capabilities to Ukraine has not changed.” Kirby added: “I expect that discussions between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday will not lead to any major announcements in this regard.”

Biden and Starmer will meet at the White House on Friday afternoon.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has for months urged his allies to allow Ukraine to launch Western missiles, including US long-range missiles and British Storm Shadow missiles, inside Russia.

Kirby said the United States was taking seriously Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning that he would consider direct Western involvement in the conflict if Ukraine fired Western-made long-range missiles at Russia, but Putin had no new stance.

“It’s not something we’ve heard before,” Kirby said. “He’s clearly demonstrated the ability to be offensive … so, yes, we take those comments seriously.”
