SEOUL, Sept 13 (Askume) – The latest Gallup Korea poll released on Friday showed South Korean President Yun Seok-yeol’s approval rating has fallen to the lowest level since he took office in May 2022.

Only 20% of respondents approved of Yin’s performance, with respondents citing health care reform, cost of living, and communication skills as factors.

The president’s ruling conservative People’s Power Party suffered a heavy blow in April’s general election, with the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea winning 175 of the 300 seats in parliament.

The election is widely seen as a mid-term referendum on Yoon’s performance, and his approval rating has remained below 30% since the polls began.

Soon after taking office, Mr. Yoon received his highest approval rating of 53% in a June 2022 Gallup Korea poll.

The government has vowed to implement reforms to address the country’s shortage of doctors, which will increase the number of medical students admitted each year by 2,000.

But months of strikes by young doctors over reforms have put pressure on the health care system and fuelled public criticism of the government’s handling of the dispute.

Against this backdrop, Cloud’s office expressed its willingness to modify some plans earlier this month .

Yin sees his foreign policy record as an advantage; These include improving relations with Tokyo, despite historical problems arising from Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula from 1910–45.

The survey was conducted by telephone among 1,002 respondents.

In another survey released by Realmeter on September 2, the cloud support rate was 29.6%.
