BRUSSELS, Sept 13 (Askume) – EU regulators have approved a 682 million euro ($756.54 million) Belgian state aid package to support renewable offshore wind, the European Commission said in a statement.
The measure would support the construction and operation of North Sea wind farms that have a capacity of up to 700 megawatts and generate at least 2.6 terawatt hours of renewable energy per year, the Commission said.
Europe has set a goal of getting 42.5% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030 , but the grid licensing process is slow and upgrading the region’s grid is also slow.
The wind power industry says a large number of pending planning consent applications could slow the transition to green energy.
