Yordan Alvarez had two RBIs and a home run in the ninth inning for the Astros (79-68), who improved to 5-6 on the month. Houston, the three-time defending American League West champion, leads the second-place Seattle Mariners by 4 1/2 games entering Friday’s finale.

The win was the Astros’ 5,000th win in franchise history.

Kikuchi, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader combined to retire the final 16 Angels members. Hader struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 30th save.

Aldegary, making his third career start, allowed four runs on six hits, walked five and struck out none.
