BAGHDAD, Sept 14 (Askume) – Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani is in stable condition after he underwent emergency heart surgery during an official visit to the United States, an oil ministry official who was part of the Iraqi delegation said on Saturday.
Abdul Ghani arrived in the United States earlier this week with the aim of attracting American companies to invest in Iraq’s energy sector.
He fell ill during the trip and was taken to hospital, where he underwent a heart catheterisation, oil ministry officials told Askume.
“He has come out of the operation room and his condition is stable,” the official said.
Abdul Ghani and other oil ministry officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
