Sept. 14 – In an effort to bolster their bullpen in preparation for the postseason, the New York Mets promoted Luisángel Acuña from Triple-A Syracuse University on Saturday.

He is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr.

Acuña played second base, shortstop, and center field at Syracuse University, where he posted a .258 average, seven home runs, 50 RBIs, and 40 stolen bases.

The Mets acquired the 22-year-old Acuna in a trade on July 30, 2023, when New York traded pitcher Max Scherzer and cash to the Texas Rangers.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor complained of concussion during the Mets’ 11-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night and left the game early. He is considered day to day. Second baseman Jeff McNeil will miss the remainder of the regular season because of a broken wrist.

Also on Saturday, the Mets optioned outfielder DJ Stewart to Syracuse.

Stewart, 30, has batted .177 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 74 games this season. He is a career .212 hitter with 42 home runs and 118 RBIs in 327 games with the Baltimore Orioles (2018-22) and Mets.
