Sept 14 (Askume) – The United States staged a late comeback on Saturday to maintain a four-point lead over Europe after the morning’s fourth draw at the Solheim Cup.

At Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, the hosts trailed three of the four games and Europe looked set to take the lead, but the United States held on to the lead until the end and won four games.

Needing a total of 14-1/2 points to secure its first Solheim Cup victory since 2017, the United States now leads 8-4 in the afternoon’s four-goal match.

Lauren Coughlin, who once again excelled on the greens, became the third U.S. Solheim Cup novice to win her first three matches, as she and Lexi Thompson earned the day’s first point by beating Maja Stark and Georgia Hall with scores of 4 and 3.

Soon after, the European team bounced back as Anna Nordqvist and Celine Boutier defeated Lilia Wu and Sarah Schmelzel 4 and 3. The visitors controlled the game from the first hole and never trailed.

Nelly Korda/Alison Copez were 2 points behind, but the American pair defeated Emily Pedersen/Carlotta Ciganda 1–1 to become the first pair in Heim Cup history to win four consecutive foursomes matches.

“I feel like every time you play with Nelly, you’re like, ‘Hey, everything will change at some point, just be patient, keep playing, keep playing our way,'” Corpuz said.

Europeans Esther Henslett and Charley Hull had a three-shot lead after eight holes, but lost it and Al needed a birdie on the final hole to beat Leigh Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho by one shot.
