KIEV, Sept 14 (Askume) – U.S. President Joe Biden is looking forward to discussing war strategy in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky this month, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Saturday, and Washington is hoping for a “substantial” new piece of work on an aid programme.

Zelenskyy said he hoped to present Biden and his two potential successors with a “victory plan” that could push Russia to diplomatically end the war in Ukraine.

“I think we need a comprehensive strategy to be successful in this war, and President Zelensky has said he is bringing that strategy, so we are very eager to sit down and talk about it, and President Biden is also very eager to do that,” Sullivan said.

He spoke via video link at the Yalta European Strategy Conference organised by the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation in Kyiv.

Sullivan said the United States aims to have a “substantial” aid package in place by the end of the month that will include a range of capabilities to prevent Russia from making major inroads in eastern Ukraine.

As Russian forces solidify their control over parts of eastern Ukraine, including Pokrovsk, Sullivan said the region “deserves special attention.”

Seizing transportation hubs could allow Moscow to open new lines of attack and complicate Ukraine’s logistics.

As Russia steps up missile attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine this year, Kiev has been seeking long-range weapons to penetrate deeper into Russian territory.

Sullivan said the matter is the subject of “intensive discussion” among allies and partners and would also take place between Biden and Zelensky.
