September 15—Andrew Benintendi led the Chicago White Sox to a 7–6 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, cutting their home losing streak to 16 games.

Gavin Sheets also homered for Chicago (34-115), which won at home for the first time since Aug. 12. The White Sox recorded their second win of the season after Oakland (65-84) scored three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game.

Gus Worland (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Nicky Lopez, Luis Robert Jr., Lenin Sosa and Benintendi each had three hits.

Benintendi began the ninth inning with a 1-2 slider into the right-field seats off Hogan Harris (4-4) for his 17th home run of the season.

The game-winning goal came on the heels of Oakland’s come-from-behind win in Game 9. With the bases loaded and Justin Anderson on base with no outs, Sosa’s fielding error led to two runs when Shay Langrilles came in. Two batters later, Jake Glover’s RBI single tied the game.

Chicago beat the A’s 16-11 and entered 32 games under interim head coach Grady Sizemore, who replaced Pedro Grifol on August 8. It won for the sixth time in the contest.

Brent Rooker drove in two runs to extend his hitting streak with Oakland to 24 games.

The White Sox took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against A’s starter JT Ginn when he got two runners on with two outs. Both players scored on Lopez’s single.

Chicago added a run in the third inning on Sheets’ leadoff home run to right field. The 381-foot hit was Sheets’ ninth home run of the season.

White Sox starting pitcher Chris Flexen extended his winning streak to 22 in a row as he pitched five scoreless innings that included eight strikeouts. He allowed six hits and walked two.

Oakland tied the game in the sixth inning against Chad Kuhl. Lawrence Butler loaded the bases with a walk with two outs, then Rooker had a two-run single.

Butler had two singles, bringing his career-best hit count to 22 games.

Chicago took the lead in the seventh inning. With runners on the corners and one out, Scott Alexander replaced Kyle Mueller and gave up Benintendi’s run-scoring single. Chicago added another run when Roberts scored on Schertz’s sacrifice fly.

In the eighth inning, with the White Sox leading 6–3 with two outs, López hit an RBI single against Grant Holman.
