September 15 – Randy Arozarena ensured the winning run by singling with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Seattle Mariners spoiled Max Scherzer’s comeback by beating the Texas Rangers 5–4 on Saturday night.

Julio Rodríguez and Luke Rielly hit home runs for the Mariners (76–73), who rallied to win consecutive games.

Max Scherzer, who took the mound for the first time since July 30 after being placed on the injured list because of right shoulder fatigue, pitched four innings and allowed two runs on five hits, including two walk-off hits on base, two strikeouts. Andrej Taveras and Marcus Semien drove deep for the Rangers (71-78).

Mariners closer Andres Muñoz (3-6) got the win, while Rangers closer José Leclerc (6-5) lost.

With one out in the ninth, Victor Robles hit a double to the left corner and stole third. The Rangers intentionally walked Rodriguez, then Cal Raleigh loaded the bases with a walk. After being stranded in the infield, Arozarena hit a ball down the inside track past diving shortstop Josh Smith to win the game.

The Mariners started the scoring in the second inning. Justin Turner and Jorge Polanco singled and JP Crawford loaded the bases. Josh Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Rangers took the lead in the third quarter. Carson Kelly hit a single to center and Taveras followed with a two-run shot to right.

Rodriguez tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a drive to second plate in left field that traveled an estimated 446 feet.

The Rangers regained the lead in the fifth quarter. Kelly hit a single to right and with one out, Semien drove deep to left to make the score 4–2.

The Mariners tied the game again in the bottom of the inning when Raley drew a walk and Raley hit a two-run shot to center.

Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out seven.
