September 15—Andrew Benintendi led the Chicago White Sox to a 7–6 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, cutting their home losing streak to 16 games.

Gavin Sheets also hit a home run for Chicago, giving the team its first home win since August 12. The White Sox recorded their second win of the season after Oakland scored three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game.

Gus Worland (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Nicky Lopez, Luis Robert Jr., Lenin Sosa and Benintendi each had three hits.

The game-winning goal came on the heels of Oakland’s come-from-behind win in Game 9. With the bases loaded and Justin Anderson on base with no outs, Sosa’s fielding error led to two runs when Shay Langrilles came in. Two batters later, Jake Glover’s RBI single tied the game.

Red Sox 7, Yankees 1

Rafael Devers’ two-run single gave Boston an easy win over host New York after he had the bases intentionally unloaded in his final at-bat.

With the Red Sox trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, Devers caught a free pass from Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (6-5). According to YES Network’s stathead.com, it was the first time New York was intentionally walked while the bases were empty.

Masataka Yoshida and Wilier Abreu each had RBI hits, giving Boston a 3-1 lead. Devers hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to make it 5-1. Cole, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, allowed a season-high seven runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Yankees.

Orioles 4, Tigers 2

Corbin Burnes pitched seven scoreless innings and Gunnar Henderson hit his 37th home run to help Baltimore defeat Detroit.

Burns (14-8) allowed two hits for the Orioles, walked one and struck out seven. Henderson had two hits, scored two and drove in two runs, while Cedric Mullins had two hits and an RBI.

Parker Meadows started Detroit’s two-game winning streak by driving in a run in the ninth inning. Colt Keith had three hits to score the Tigers’ second run.

Royal 5, Pirate 1

Bobby Witt Jr. had a home run and three RBIs. Michael Wacha pitched five quality innings to help Kansas City defeat host Pittsburgh.

Wacha (13-7) allowed only one run on four hits, struck out eight and walked three. The Royals won their seventh game in nine tries.

Mitch Keller (11-10) gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits in six innings. Pittsburgh’s starters had six strikeouts and a walk. Bryan Reynolds and Jared Triolo had two hits each for the Pirates, who lost their second consecutive game.

Bluebird 7, Cardinal 2

José Berríos pitched seven strong innings to earn his seventh consecutive and career-best 16th win, helping host Toronto defeat St. Louis.

Berrios (16-9) allowed one run, two hits and four strikeouts with two walks, helping the Blue Jays win the first two games of the three-game series. Davis Schneider went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs and Alejandro Kirk also had a two-run RBI single for Toronto, which won three of the last four games.

Jordan Walker hit his third home run of the season for the Cardinals, who have allowed three hits and lost four of their last six games. Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson (8-7) allowed five runs (one earned), four hits and three walks with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings.

Phillies 6, Mets 4

Carl Stevenson hit a two-run double in the seventh inning and then hit a home run in the eighth inning to help host Philadelphia defeat New York.

Bryce Harper hit two home runs for the Phillies, who moved eight games ahead of the Mets in the NL East standings. Stevenson hit a clutch double to right field against Reed Garrett, and then an inning later, J.D. Martinez went deep to center field and Stevenson made a full-stretch jumping catch at the wall to put the Phillies ahead.

Starlin Marte drove in three runs for the Mets, who have won 12 of their last 14 games. Luisangel Acuna, the brother of Braves star Ronald Acuna, made his major league debut with New York and went 2-for-4.

Guardians 6, Destruction 1

Josh Naylor’s two-RBI single highlighted a three-run sixth inning, and newcomer Joey Cantillo pitched five scoreless innings in Cleveland’s win over Tampa Bay.

After losing the first two games of this four-game series and allowing a combined three runs, the AL Central-leading Guardians tied that mark in one game thanks to Naylor, who was coming off a two-hit loss on the night. Meanwhile, Cantillo (2-3) pitched 6 2/3 perfect innings against the Chicago White Sox on Monday, allowing three hits and a walk-off walk against the Rays base and striking out six.

Junior Caminero had three hits and scored two runs against Hunter Gaddis in the eighth inning, which was the Rays’ only run.

Nationals 4, Marlins 1

José Turner had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, and Joey Gallo and Juan Yepez also homered to give host Washington the lead over Miami.

It was the seventh time this season the Nationals hit three or more home runs in a game. Keibert Ruiz had a two-run homer for the Nationals, who beat Miami 10–2 for their second consecutive win of the season.

Otto Lopez went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, and Jonah Bride had two hits, including a double, to score one for the Marlins point, the Marlins losing for the fifth time in their last six games. Valente Bellozzo (2-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Reds 11, Twins 1

TJ Friedel went 4 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs as Cincinnati easily beat Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Cincinnati’s Noelvi Marte went 2 for 5 with a two-run fourth inning and nine runs batted in. Spencer Steele and Jonathan India also scored two each for the Reds, who will sweep the three-game series on Sunday.

Byron Buxton scored the only run for the Twins, who have lost six of their last eight games.

Warriors 10, Dodgers 1

Chris Sale allowed one run and five hits in six innings to help Atlanta defeat Los Angeles in the second game of a four-game series.

Sale (17-3) is trying to become the first National League pitcher since Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw in 2011 to lead the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts with six strikeouts and two walks while his ERA dropped to 2.35.

Dodgers right-hander Jack Flaherty (12-7) threw a season-low three innings, giving up four runs and five hits while striking out four and striking out a season-high four.

Rockies 6, Cubs 5 (10 innings)

Brenton Doyle got the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning to help Colorado defeat Chicago in Denver.

Colorado forced overtime with two outs in the ninth inning when Sam Hilliard hit a two-run homer against Porter Hodge. In the 10th inning, Doyle struck out Drew Smyly (3-8) with a 3-2 curveball that scored Aaron Shank to give the Rockies a three-run lead.

Tyler Kinley (6-1) sealed the win by retiring the Cubs in the 10th inning. Doyle also hit two sacrifice flies and led Colorado with three RBIs. Cody Bellinger and Pete Crow-Armstrong hit home runs for the Cubs, who trail the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves by six games for the National League’s final wild-card spot.

Brewers 15, Diamondbacks 8

Willy Adames hit a grand slam, drove in seven runs in the second inning and hit a solo home run in the fourth inning as Milwaukee beats Arizona in Phoenix to sweep the series in three games.

Adams went 3-for-3, struck out five and led the National League with 107 runs. He was one of six Brewers to allow at least two runs as Milwaukee poured in 13 runs on 16 hits and Arizona State scored eight runs in three innings.

Randall Grichuk of the Diamondbacks had three RBIs and a home run to move one game ahead of the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves for the final NL wild-card spot.

Padres 8, Giants 0

Donovan Solano had a triple-double on four hits and Joe Musgrove combined with two relievers on five hits to give San Diego its second consecutive loss to host San Francisco with a clean sheet.

The win not only puts the Padres 1 1/2 games ahead of the other teams in the NL Wild Card Round, but also 3 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers at the top of the NL West.

Xander Bogaerts hit his 10th homer in the fourth inning to make it 2–0, then the Padres added three more home runs in the fifth and three more in the eighth. Manny Machado sealed the win with a two-run single in the fifth inning, and Jackson Merrill added a two-run double in the eighth.

Sailor 5, Wanderer 4

Randy Arozarena added a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to seal the winning run as host Seattle beat Texas, capping off Marks Max Scherzer’s comeback win.

Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley hit home runs for the Mariners, putting them on a winning streak and 2 1/2 games out of the American League finals wild card berth. Mariners closer Andres Munoz (3-6) got the win and Rangers closer Jose Leclerc (6-5) got the loss.

Max Scherzer, making his first start since July 30 because of a right shoulder fatigue injury, went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two. Leody Taveras and Marcus Semien fill out the Rangers’ backline.

Astros 5, Angels 3

Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Houston, which beats Los Angeles in Anaheim, Calif. It’s the second game of a three-game series between the American League West rivals.

Justin Verlander pitched five innings to give the division-leading Astros their first win in more than three months after winning the first two games of the series. Houston is 4 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Seattle Mariners in the AL West.

The Angels are trying to avoid last place in the AL West for the first time since 1999 but have lost four in a row.
