BUENOS AIRES, Sept 15 (Askume) – Argentine President Javier Melli said on Sunday in his 2025 budget report to Congress he would defend the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal balance and denounce those who veto all bills.

Miley, who took office in December, has introduced tough austerity measures to combat runaway inflation and stabilise the economy and has said a balanced budget is vital.

He said an increase in spending would only be considered if there was a similar reduction in spending in other sectors.

“If that doesn’t happen, it will be rejected,” he said.

Miley also said her goal is to maintain fiscal balance regardless of macroeconomic issues.

“This draft budget reflects an approach that protects fiscal balance regardless of economic conditions,” he said.

The draft budget forecasts the economy to grow by 5% in 2025, with an inflation rate of 18.3% and an exchange rate of 1,207 pesos to the US dollar by the end of the year.

GDP is expected to grow by 5% in 2026 and 5.5% in 2027.
